Fossil Free Fairfax is an ambitious campaign calling on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to adopt a resolution to set 100% renewable energy goals, oppose new fossil fuel infrastructure, and divest from fossil fuel companies.

Our campaign is part of the Fossil Free movement—a wave of similar resolution campaigns across the country, from Seattle to Corpus Christi to Ocean City, Maryland. Together we can build a fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all. (Just ask Bill McKibben.)

We have put together a Fossil Free Fairfax resolution, and we’re looking for a champion of the Board of Supervisors to bring our resolution up for a vote. The work we do to pass this resolution is our opportunity to change the dialogue around climate change in Fairfax County. It’s an important first step toward the just transition to a better world for ourselves, our kids, and our grandkids.

How can you help?

  1. Grow the movement by collecting petition signatures online. Share our Fossil Free Fairfax petition with folks across Fairfax County by email or on social media. Collecting petition signatures to present to supervisors at meetings will show that we have broad support for ambitious action to mitigate climate change.
  2. Collect petition signatures at local meetings and events. Email if you’re intersted in collecting paper petitions. Or join us on September 8 for our Rise for Climate petition drive.
  3. Join a supervisor lobby team. We have met with several of the Fairfax County supervisors and will continue meeting with them until we find a champion for our resolution. If you’d like to join a supervisor lobby team, email, and we will connect you with a team leader. Be sure you include your magisterial district in your email; you can find out which district you’re in here.
